An idea for a local history/archaeology group for villagers and locals of surrounding parishes (new/old) to share their passion for the history of the local area.
The group hopes to focus on the history, heritage and archaeology of the following areas: Llannerch-y-medd, Llandyfrydog, Ceidio, Coedana and Carmel. If interest from other areas persist, we may expand the focus area outwards.
It is hoped that, once established, there will be opportunities to include local history talks (led by locals or historians), heritage walks of the town and surrounding areas, workshops (family history research etc.) and some research projects (notable people/places and archaeological work).
I recognise that there are a lot of locals who are keen about local history and wish to either share their knowledge with others or learn something new. It is also a chance to meet new people, share a common interest and take part in various fun activities. So please do get in touch.
There are 30 members at the moment but more are always welcome. Members must be at least 16 years of age and there is no membership fee attached to the club.
We’re excited to announce that we will be returning to continue our archaeological work on the Foel on the 12th of April onwards. We hope that, if circumstances allow, to host a series of talks about our findings for the local community to enjoy, as well as display a few of the most amazing artefacts recovered from the site for locals to see in person!
It is hoped that the work at both the Foel and nearby ‘Smithfield’ site can be included within a heritage interpretation centre in the village in the future. Join us so we can all contribute to this fantastic project!
If you have an interest or have some information that may be of interest to others please do not hesitate to get in touch.
